A small tree with intricately patterned variegated leaves which are especially attractive as they unfurl in spring. Light yellow or yellow-green leaves with dark green veins with a pink to red blush overlay.

This maple has small, cupped shaped leaves that hold color well through summer. In spring the leaf color is bright yellow-green, darkening to a rich green during the summer months. The leaf margins become tinged with rust-red in the fall until the entire leaf is saturated to a rich red. The green bamboo-like bark accents the dramatic fall color.

This new introduction from Japan has a very bushy growth habit. Small light green leaves profusely covering the many branches and twigs give a billowy look, making a nice accent in any size garden landscape. You may expect 8-10 inches of overall growth per year when the plant is sited in full sun to partial shade.

The translation of `Aoyagi' is `green coral' and the color of the bark on branches, stems and twigs bears out the name. This low spreading form of Japanese maple will give noteworthy look to almost any garden setting. The light pea-green shade of leaf and bark will contrast nicely with other plants. Fall brings a pleasing gold leaf over the green branches and after leaf drop the show continues as the intensity of color in the bark increases. A garden tree for the entire year.

This cultivar of Japanese maple shows a spring/summer color seldom found in the species: yellow-gold. Colors change through the growing season from light green with red margins to a true yellow during subsequent summer flushes of growth. Fall gives a bright yellow show prior to leaf drop. `Aureum' is a modest grower and densely branched giving it an interesting winter silhouette.

The small leaves emerge in spring a brilliant pink and then change to dark red, sometimes mottled with green. 'Beni fushigi' grows as a large shrub, broader than tall, and is a pleasing complement to other maples and conifers.

A tiny dwarf shrub with typical palmatum leaves which are much reduced in size. The pinkish or orange-red color has a luminous quality which is very unique. Performs best in full sun.

A very rare and dwarf form of Japanese maple. Older trees rarely exceed 2 yards in dimension. The multitudes of small yellow-green leaves with red margins give quite a show in spite of the small stature. A truly rare and choice plant.

Leaf color is a rich purple red from spring to early summer. Fall colors are billiant crimson. Small tree growing to 10-12 ft.

One of the best and most unique of the variegated Japanese maples. From Mt. Higasa in Japan, `Higasyama' has been in cultivation since the early 1800s. This tree will display much variability in foliage shape and color until it gains some age. The important variegation is a creamy pink leaf margin with a dark green band in the center of each leaf lobe. In fall the cream-pink portion will turn yellow-orange to red. `Higasyama' is an important cultivar for bonsai work.

An upright, green leaved form which has brilliant orange fall color. Although the orange fall color is reason enough to grow this tree, it is the vibrant summer foliage and overall sturdy habit which will be appreciated most. The star shaped leaves are shiny, rich green and very heavily textured.

`Sand sprinkled' is the literal description of this strong growing variegated Japanese maple. Spring/summer color is a rich orange-red with green colored veination. In late summer the leaf becomes profuse with tiny green spots over a red-brown field.`Iijima sunago' will need some room to grow, maturing at about 18-20 feet.

One of the most vigorous laceleafs with large rich, purple-red color held well through the summer. Fall color is bright red. Grows in the familiar dense, cascading shape which one associates with the 'red laceleaf'. A distinctive tree even in the winter,  as bare branches reveal a silhouette of great character.

A vigorous cultivar of Japanese maple that adds a sturdy, rich look to the landscape garden. Deep purple-red, deeply divided leaves with green undertones fully clothe a uniformly broad crown of branches. Color changes to bright crimson in fall.

`Irish Lace' exhibits the classic `dissectum' framework of branches; pendulous and somewhat contorted. Most noteworthy, however, is the foliage that first emerges as a splash of bright pink changing to a bronzy green. This new growth show goes on throughspring and summer.

One of the first Japanese maples to leaf out, the small, five-lobed leaves of 'Katsura' are brilliant yellow-orange, turning to a rich green. Fall colors are pastel tones of yellow and orange. This is a small upright dwarf tree.

Leaves of this cultivar are deeply divided. Spring and Early summer coloration is deep rich bronze red. Late summer colors change to a deep green with dark red. Good container tree. Grows to 10 ft.

A true dwarf form of Japanese maple in the `Yatsubusa' group. Valued as a bonsai candidate as well as a landscape tree, `Kiyohime' shows a unique blend of color and form. Shiny light green leaves are tinged with red-orange in the spring progressing through the season to yellow-orange in fall. The branches are strong and do not tend to sport long shoots, hence the value in bonsai or other container culture.

Commonly known as the `feather leaf' Japanese maple, `Koshimino' is fairly heavily covered with feather-shaped leaves that appear to be attached as individual lobes to the branches and twigs. Leaf color is a rich green that persists through to fall giving  way to orange and yellow. The growth habit is an unusual upright narrow, so is excellent for planting in tight situations.

Bright green, young branches contrast with fall colors of yellow, pink and orange. Although usually planted as a specimen, it is striking in a group, in a patio container or as a bonsai.

This is a little known cultivar and hard to find. spring growth is a reddish brown, summer colors are a deep rich green. Fall colors are yellow, orange and crimson.

This green maple has narrow lobed, green leaves presenting a light and airy appearance reminiscent of bamboo. Plant several Linearilobum in a group to define your concept of a peaceful refuge.
